Presence of Theravada monks and nuns in Nepal is noted by\u00a0 the foreigners.\u00a0 Theravada Bhikkhus in 1980 had been well received by the Newar community but they also had not broken with their Vajrayana tradition.\u00a0\u00a0 Devid N. Gellner sees that Theravada has become a major challenge\u00a0\u00a0 to\u00a0\u00a0 traditional\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Newar\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Buddhism\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 as\u00a0\u00a0 it\u00a0\u00a0 has\u00a0\u00a0 replaced the Vajracarya\u00a0 priests\u00a0 by\u00a0 performing\u00a0 ceremonies\u00a0 for\u00a0\u00a0 a\u00a0\u00a0 considerable number of lay-followers.\u00a0 There are three pieces of work relating to Theravada Buddhism\u00a0 in\u00a0 Nepal\u00a0 which\u00a0 are\u00a0 quite\u00a0 important\u00a0 to\u00a0 understand the past events and situations. A considerably detailed\u00a0 account\u00a0 of Theravada Buddhism in Nepal was produced by Ria Kloppenborg after having made several visits to Nepal in 1973.\u00a0 It\u00a0 gives\u00a0 an\u00a0 outline of the main historical\u00a0 events\u00a0 in\u00a0 the\u00a0 development\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 movement\u00a0 especially the efforts of the Buddhist organizations. It\u00a0 gives\u00a0 a\u00a0 description\u00a0 of\u00a0 the history and the\u00a0 contemporary\u00a0 status\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 matter\u00a0 along\u00a0 with\u00a0 some aspects and their consequence to Theravada Buddhism in Nepal. ,\u00a0 In Tewari&#8217;s\u00a0 study\u00a0 we\u00a0 find\u00a0 information\u00a0 concerning\u00a0 the\u00a0\u00a0 background\u00a0\u00a0 of monks and nuns from\u00a0 the\u00a0 various\u00a0 Newar castes\u00a0 together\u00a0 with percentages based on observations from the year 1978 to 1982. In Heinz Bechert Jens-Uwe Hartsmann, give Observations on\u00a0 the\u00a0 Reform\u00a0 of Buddhism\u00a0 in\u00a0 Nepal\u00a0 depicting\u00a0 the\u00a0\u00a0 introduction\u00a0\u00a0 and\u00a0\u00a0 historical development along with the structure of\u00a0 contemporary\u00a0 activities\u00a0 of Theravada\u00a0 Buddhism\u00a0 in\u00a0 Nepal.\u00a0 (1986).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also some Nepalese who have written about Theravada activities in Nepal. Among them Venerable Amritananda who was the first to have written a small booklet A Short HistoryofTheravada Buddhism in Nepal. His work covers the main Theravada events and activities\u00a0 in his lifetime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sahisainika Itihasa&nbsp; by&nbsp; Somadhoja&nbsp; Vista,&nbsp; Gopala Rajavamsavali by Dhanavajra&nbsp; Vajracarya&nbsp; and&nbsp; Kamala&nbsp; P. Malla, Modern Nepal&nbsp; ,Vol. 1, by D. R. Regmi,&nbsp; Nationalities&nbsp; Question in Nepal&nbsp; by Sitaram Tamang are the sources used to comprehend the secular history of the country. There are many other works which are helpful to enhance the understanding the matter.
